Mineralogy

Sunstone: aka “golden sunstone” “confetti sunstone”
Sunstone is a trade name for feldspar that exhibits aventurescence when light interacts with tiny plate-like mineral inclusions of hematite, goethite, or other iron oxides (even copper for Oregon sunstone). Sometimes called aventurescent feldspar. These highly reflective, flat inclusions are precisely aligned along the crystallographic axis, and this common orientation enables them to simultaneously flashy when the stone is moved under light (creating that glitter effect).

Sunstone/moonstone: Both are types of feldspar. Moonstone “adularescence”(floating moon “glow”) is usually caused by refraction of light from alternating lamellar planes (structual layers) whereas sunstone has microscopic inclusions (hematite, goethite, other iron oxides - Oregon is copper) that refract the light giving the spangled effect.
