Picasso "Jasper" isn't a jasper at all - but a metamorphic limestone. The layers and colors are from heat and pressure over time while forming, and the lines are caused by iron oxides.

I hand selected these in Tucson from the owner of one of my favorite family-owned lapidaries based in Mexico, they hand carve everything. This material is from Utah.
